The Body of a Woman; as the battlefield in the Bosnian war is a play by Matei Visniec a Romanian born writer living and working in exile in France. The play was translated and premiered by Reality Productions in 2000. Kate is trying to heal herself by treating victims of ethnic rape in Bosnia. Dorra is trying to reconcile herself to her pregnancy after her barbaric rape. Both women are victims of war, struggling to find realease from their inner battlefields. Matei Visniec's play of reconciliation has received acclaim in France where it was premiered. 'I want to show a western audience an image of the complexities of the Balkans … to comment on our epoch through the stories of two women. I want above all to pay homage to women in general as bringers of hope.' It was presented at the Young Vic Theatre in London Nov 13th-Dec 3rd 2000. |
